1. Metallurgy Selection: High Tensile Q235B vs. Q355B Hot-Rolled Strip Steel
Industrial storage racking performance depends heavily on the chemical composition and yield ductility of its primary steel substrate. HEDA Shelves utilizes cold-formed structural steel sourced directly from Tier-1 national mills (such as Baosteel and Shougang). While standard commercial light shelving often relies on non-standard recycled scrap, heavy-duty upright frames and load beams require tested low-carbon steel (Q235B and Q355B/Grade 50 equivalents) offering verified tensile strengths between 370 and 510 MPa, alongside a certified elongation percentage of at least 21%.
This balanced ductile-to-yield ratio ensures upright columns resist plastic deformation under uneven forklift shock impacts. Every production heat undergoes batch spectrometry and mechanical testing, including Charpy V-notch impact validation, ensuring micro-structures remain non-brittle even when deployed in -30°C frozen cold chains.
2. Finite Element Method (FEM) and Cold-Formed Cross-Section Optimization
Thin-walled, cold-formed steel sections are susceptible to local, distortional, and global flexural-torsional buckling. To optimize load-to-weight ratios without sacrificing structural integrity, HEDA applies FEM simulations to evaluate stress distribution across our signature Omega (Ω) and multifold upright profiles. The incorporation of precision multi-rib returns along column flanges increases the radius of gyration, dramatically enhancing critical buckling resistance without adding excess steel weight.
Beam-to-column connections are executed through integral stamped claw connectors (featuring 3, 4, or 5 locking teeth) precision-nested into teardrop or trapezoidal punching slots at 50mm, 75mm, or 76.2mm pitch adjustments. The mechanical wedge geometry tightens under applied vertical load, providing high moment-rotational stiffness while retaining ductile flexibility to absorb lateral seismic shear forces.
3. Multi-Stage Surface Conversion and Thermoset Powder Finishing
Corrosion failure in warehouse racking begins beneath the surface coating. Standard dipping methods frequently leave acidic residuals inside closed roll-formed box beams, causing undetected interior rust that compromises load capacity. HEDA’s automatic finishing line implements a rigid ten-stage pre-treatment wash cycle:
- High-Temperature Alkaline Degreasing: Removes all stamping oils and rolling lubrication from cold mills.
- Hydrochloric Pickling: Chemically eliminates mill scale and iron oxides.
- Zinc-Iron Composite Phosphating: Chemically converts raw steel surface into a dense microscopic crystalline protective matrix, maximizing dry film adhesion.
- Dual DI Water Rinsing: Removes residual salts to ensure neutrality prior to thermal drying.
- Electrostatic Powder Deposition & Curing: Non-toxic polyester-epoxy hybrid powder is applied uniformly at 60 to 90 microns and baked at 180°C to 200°C. This delivers a resilient, scratch-resistant surface with salt-spray resistance exceeding 500 hours (ASTM B117 standards).
